Instead of having the conflict between Percy and Jason in HoO be entirely about alpha male posturing I’d have rather seen the conflict be over ideologies.
Example:
Jason does NOT believe the ends justify the means and Percy most definitely DOES.
I feel like I need to explain my thought process here, which I kinda already did in the comments but whatever.
From my perspective if Percy and Jason had the same goal – whether it was to save their friends or save a whole bunch of people – and the only way to complete that goal was to do something Horendous, Jason would NOT do the Horendous thing and Percy WOULD (or at least Jason would be slower to make the decision than Percy would).
On the flip side, if reaching their goal meant sacrificing one of their friends, even if it meant saving the world, Jason would be more likely to make the sacrifice call than Percy would.
